  Edgar Allen Poetry
America SCORES gets spooky and POE-tic for Halloween!

Recently, the ghost of Edgar Allen Poe left a very interesting letter for our poet-athletes. Seeing as he has been dead for the past 160 years, he is totally out of touch with his favorite holiday- Halloween! So, he asked the America SCORES kids to write poems capturing the creepy, crawly essence of this eerie day.
As the poems come rolling in, Mr. Poe is sifting through them all, trying to decide on his favorite. If he finds one he really likes, he might even make an appearance at our October 29th Halloween Game Day!

Wanna Get in On the Frightening Fun? Contact Marty at mmannion@americascores.org  to be one of Poe's scary friends on game day. With your help, we can create a truly memorable Halloween for our America SCORES teams!

In the meantime, here's an early contest entry to get you in the Halloween spirit:

Spirit
by Zelking Silva, 5th grade, Mission Education Center

Shadow, you have a dark spirit
Like a ghost in the fog

Horrifying, Frightening
And a blurry shadow
Spirit, Ghost, Witch
Terrifying blurry fog
That guides me
Nightmarish fog
Your shadow terrifies me
But your Ghost is
Even darker

El Espíritu
Por Zelking Silva, 5to Grado, Mission Education Center

Sombra tienes un espíritu oscuro
Como un fantasma de niebla
Espeluznante Espantoso
Y una sombra borrosa
Espíritu, Fantasma, Bruja
Espantosa niebla borrosa
Que guía sobre mí
Espeluznante niebla
Tu sombra me espanta
Pero tu Fantasma eres
Más oscuro
