On Saturday, San Francisco's Game Day had a new flare, a little pinker and higher pitched than normal. Over 40 girls participated in the first-ever "Girls Day". After their coed games, girls from a mix of schools gathered to play in some all girls games. No boys were allowed on the field.
Players from the University of San Francisco Women's Soccer Team volunteered their time as referees and "guest coaches" for the day. They got a chance to bond with SCORES players during the game, talking to them on the sidelines about soccer, school, and whatever else girls talk about.
A girls team from Redding Elementary played in their first ever SCORES Game Day. It was a rare chance for the girls to test their skills and teamwork against other organized teams.
"We got killed, but it was awesome" one Redding girl said of the day.
