Edgar Allan Poe resurfaced just in time for our Halloween game day! |
After poring through more than 100 amazing Halloween poems, Edgar Allan Poe chose his favorite: "Halloween Night" by J. Serra 5th grader Stacey Perez. Stacey won a $50 Sports Basement gift certificate, a soccer ball, and the honor of having her poem read by a world famous, long-dead poet!
Other poets who scared and delighted us were Jose from Marshall Elementary, and Chris from Redding Elementary. Thanks to all our awesome coaches and poets for making our Halloween game day truly haunting!
Here's Stacy's winning poem:
Halloween Night
I like Halloween because it's nice
But some things are creepy like hairy mice
Like magicians doing weird tricks
Like zombies killing people with sharp picks
Like mummies wrapped up in bugs
Like old ladies with mugs
Like ghosts calling out people's name
Like kids in the dark playing hide and seek
Like dead bodies flowing in a river
Like kids starving to shiver
Like dogs becoming evil dragons
Like dead people from 100 years ago with wagons
Kids trick or treating
Dead hearts beating.
I like Halloween.
